It is reinforced by developer CCP's hands-off approach

Independent consultant and lawyer Alexander "The Mittani" Gianturco provided an impassioned discuss Saturday at GDC, WOW Gold  urging designers to analyze the inherent "espionage" metagame of EVE Online and take inspiration from it for other items.

"In my viewpoint, espionage is the greatest in user-generated material," said Gianturco. "You don't regularly have to crap out new raids, players will amuse themselves by trying to tear each others' throats out."

The metagame Gianturco referred to is essentially exclusive to EVE Online: high-level players may operate others through indicates outside of the experience client itself to be able to attain their objectives, be it that player's in-game forex, the progression of his affiliated team, or something else entirely. While this is not an formal function of the experience, it is reinforced by developer CCP's hands-off approach, significance players have essentially developed it from scratch.

"Players in an espionage metagame get to use cunning and adjustment as a expertise, which is unusual in activities," he ongoing. "For those of us who like that kind of factor, it's a huge sketch."

Gianturco defines an espionage metagame as having three key components: player-created factions, essential consequences, and a developer-supported atmosphere.
